Merge Puzzles

2048 Hexa Merge

2048 on a hexagonal grid. Six directions instead of four, which sounds easier and is considerably harder.

The same merge rules mapped onto hexagons. Each tile has six neighbours rather than four, and you slide in six directions.

More options sounds like more freedom. In practice it removes the thing that makes 2048 manageable — on a square grid you can lock a corner and ignore two directions entirely. A hex grid has no corner that safe, so large tiles are always at some risk of being pulled out of position.

Adapt by anchoring an edge instead of a corner. Pick one side, build your descending chain along it, and accept that you will occasionally have to break formation. The rigid corner strategy that wins square 2048 will lose here.

Genuinely different rather than a reskin, and worth playing after the classic version rather than before it.
